Wayne Muller is a therapist, pastor, coach, consultant, public speaker, and author. His training and experience from walking with people in their humanity shines in his book, Sabbath. Sabbath incorporates the wisdom of several faith traditions while remaining authentically Christian.
Muller presents the Sabbath as God’s invitation to “listen to what is most deeply beautiful, nourishing, or true.” He describes our busyness as a “kind of violence” and challenges us to invite healing and joy through rest. Sabbath is a book that will provoke you to reflect on your own pace of life and fear of stopping. It will awaken the desire for the deep joy only found when we stop and surrender.
Sabbath is more invitational than informational. There is a lot of great information here but the treasure I discovered was the examples of helpful sabbath practices. You won’t find legalism here, but a graceful approach to a mostly forgotten practice. As the title says, the Sabbath is about finding rest, renewal, and delight in our busy lives.
