Adam McHugh's book, The Listening Life, should be on a required reading to-do life list somewhere. Clear and well-written. He starts with the obvious: learn how to listen to God, Scripture, and Creation. Where this book goes above and beyond is when he brings it back to everyday life: listening to others, yourself, and others in pain. I don't know about you, but I am often unsure of how to support those going through something challenging that words cannot fix, especially when that someone is me. McHugh offers faithful insights that show the reader how to listen with empathy, hold space for others, and most importantly, not hijack a conversation about someone else to talk about yourself. This book is excellent and relatable to everyone, I highly recommend it.
